Nice deep dark rusty brown color with a tight one finger high head thats lightly creamy colored, gets thickly shaped stringy lace.
Smell is a beatiful array of roasty malts, sweetish, with a subtle cookie dough toastyness and light chocolatyness lingering on top of a even lighter hoppy sense of fruit.
Taste is mild but more so of flavor then most of this style with a perfect roasty/toasty maltyness thats breadish, quite firm, easy, fresh, and clean with a nice lingering sweetness and some very nice light but noticeable chocolate and a undefinable fruit, I think maybe unripe grapes or pear, but thats very light in the mix but also noticeable to a certain desent. Very subtle and well balanced with just a smidge of calm bitterness, but is mostly malty roasted sweetness.
Feel is very close to medium body but definately not light or full. Carbonation is there with a strong texture, but is easy to handle. Great drinkability on this stuff, goes down very easy and smooth. One of the best browns I've had in a long time. A great summer brew for those who enjoy darker colors other then the usual yellow.
New Glarus has a winner with this one!
Note: This beers' qualities show up at a warmer temp about 48-53,
not while cold, this review was done while at about 48. Hence some of the lower reviews, or at least thats my take on it, but its another good reason why it would make for a good summer drink.
