New Glarus Brewery
I get an immediate hop smack in the face as soon as the bottle is cracked open. Hop Hearty poured amber with a slight haze from the bottle conditioning. A 1+ finger dense craggy off white head formed on the pour. There's very few carbonation bubbles rising to that tightly packed head. Thick drink lines after each sip.
This beer has a solid caramel backbone but the main aspect is the bountiful hop bouquet. Citric hops lead the way in the formof sweetened grapefruit along with a squeeze or two of orange. Pine needles are also a welcome addition. Mild but noticeable alcohol fumes rise through the air adding a nice complexity to things.
That caramel maltiness leads the way along with a mildly toasted malt. Hops quickly take over but are more of a flavor complexity than a bittering component. Piney hops show up first but are soon matched by sweetened grapefruit and orange juice. The pine needle hoppiness shows up again on the backend and leaves a nice moderate bitterness. Nice balance, leaning to the hoppier side but more balanced and flavorful than most.
Medium bodied with a prickly carbonation on the swallow. Lively mouthfeel with enough bitterness to keep you wanting more. Slightly drying on the finish.
I could drink and drink and keep on drinking Hop Hearty. This beer has the ability to make you want another drink immediately after the last.
Hop Hearty is one of my favorite IPAs. If this was available in Illinois it would be constantly stocked in my fridge. A wonderful drink from New Glarus. I'm sure getting it straight from the brewery doesn't hurt the quality either.

Thanks again, badbeer, for hosting an awesome LIF!
On the pour, a beautiful copper color, slightly hazy. Gorgeous, creamy and pillowy khaki head with amazing retention. Good lacing.
Aroma is heavy with sweet caramel malts, followed mildly by an earthy, citrus hop scent... mmm, cascade. A nutty hint here?!?
Ahhh, there's that hop blast! Nice-n-citrusy; orange zest, hint of lemon, grapefruit, and of course, pine. Nice sweet malt backbone - well balanced. Mellow in the finish. Not to much of a tongue scrubber.
Enjoyable? Youbetchayo'ass...
Medium in body, smooth, rich and creamy mouthfeel. Adequate carbonation. Dry towards the finish... I would swear the ABV is higher thatn 6%, as it has that "warming" sensation that I crave so much.
Damn. I wish this was readily accessible for me. A true treat, as it is. Very enjoyable, everything I was hoping it would be. One heck of a solid IPA.
Very Recommended!

Nice glowing deep coppery amber color with a small cream hued head about a pencil width high, fading quickly to leave a thin haze on the top and curtains of lace. Smell is quick smackin' of hops, waxy and green, fresh and clean with nice light pine and citrus. Sharp taste of hops early of earthy-herbal quality, nice waxy fresh green, close to fat and bittering dry with a firm mildness balanced in from a malts. To bad it didn't stick around, it disappeared a little to fast, could be held a smidgon longer in its bite and feel, but whats there is pretty soild and balanced well, making it quite enjoyable and refreshingly drinkable. Feel is full and rounded in mediumness bodyment with some drying qualities located at the start and slight pineyness plays on the tongue and roof of the mouth, then mellows out for a smooth ride and held firmly. One heck of a decent IPA.

Pours dark amber with a slight bit of head that fades quickly. Aromas of melon, citrus, and hearty malt. Flavor is a little more malt forward with some lemon rind, other citrus and a piney bitter finish. Overall they're some really fruity hops but with a pretty big caramel malt backing. Smooth body with some slightly prickly carbonation. Really nice sessionable IPA.

Pours a nice golden copper with a hint of red hue to it. Thick foamy slightly off-white head sticks around for a good bit. The walls of the glass are coated in a nice layer of lacing.
Very nice caramel malt up front. Smooth and slightly sweet. Fruity hops overtake the aroma after that. Apple and lemon up front. Hint of pine in the end. Touch of light toffee too.
Smooth malty body with lots of wonderful caramel creaminess. A bit sweet, the malt mingles nicely with the hops. Fruity notes of sweet apple and light pine. Easy drinking and tasty.

Poured from bottle into standard pint glass.
A - Pours a nice amber/orange color. Lots of bubbles running around, but a small head that is gone fairly quickly.
S - Citrus hops are at the forefront with a slight sweet malt backbone.
T - Solid IPA. Strong citrus bitter bite. Just a tad of sweet caramel malt.
M - Medium bodied with oily hops. Finishes nice and dry.
D - Very solid IPA. Probably more bitter than hoppy, but very drinkable.

Thanks to TIp Top for this one fine WI brew. Pours a medium amber color with red tint to it. Crystal clear. Smell is light with hops. Taste is strong, very hoppy. A little more than medium carbonation, not overwhelming though.
