12oz bottle with the code 3111. I reckon that's the 311th day of 2011.

It pours a clear light gold with close to a 2 finger head of foam and has a lot of lacing.

The smell apples, green apples! I LOVE that aroma.

The taste is yummy. Loads of apples bringing both sweet and tart notes that really intensify when I swish the beer in my mouth. I was looking for the base beer, Brown Ale, and though it had some hints of one, the fruit just dominated completely and I'm alright with that. Lots of flavour in this 4%abv brew to enjoy.

On the upper end of light bodied with a nice effervescent level of carbonation, the mouthfeel was good and the drinkability..excellent.

A real fun beer to drink.

I poured this one from a 12oz brown bottle into a shaker pint glass.

A= This ale poured a brilliantly clear light orange color with a thin white head. The head rapidly dropped to a broken ring and did not leave any lace behind, but the color and clarity more than made up for this.

S= Smelled like apples and caramelized sugars with a hint of malty richness. Not overly aromatic, but the smells that are there really resonate.

T= Started off with a quick pop of malic acid bite, then moved into the more beery realm of sweet malts and caramelized sugars. The middle was all apple fruit flavor, slightly tart and slightly sweet. Finished crisp and lightly sweet, with an aftertaste reminiscent of baked apple pie.

MF= A little lighter than medium in body with a nice and crisp carbonation level. Very refreshing and clean feeling in my mouth.

D= Off the charts drinkable and so refreshing. I wish this was available to me by the case in the heat of June-August. So tasty and worth every good word that has been printed about it.

Nice light golden copper color with a slight hazyness to it. Small, loosely bubbled and strangely constructed greyish cap that whisps away pretty quickly leaving a thin collar that stays about half the glass down. Lacing is very minimal in spots.

Aroma is musty mushy bruised apples, borderline melon-like with a more musty past-its-prime honeydew thing. Oddly abtrusive yet possibly appetizing and intriguing nose.

Flavor is mellow and musky with a heavy sweet dark apple skin and mush tone. Pretty darn sweet and thickly so; the apple isn't to bad, its not cidery, its mushy, chewy, tangy, and mellow. The sourness is beyond deep in tone, nearly nonexsisitent until very late where some truer crispy apple tones float across the finish.

Feel is partially thick and chewy with a mellow tang and solid sweet dark apple tone thats melony and candy-like. Sugary through and through; smooth and creamy mediumness in body.
A strange brew tis true. One thats either a 'love it' or 'hate it' thing. I'm right in the middle, I don't particularly like it all that much, but it doesn't bother me or uninterest me either. I probably won't buy it again but I'm glad to have tried it. One of those types of brews.

A - Pour creates a small fizzy white head, that is gone in an instant. Fizziness keeps some foam on the surface, but only in a few places. Body is clean and golden, with a shit-ton of bubbles rising to the surface.

S - Quite simply apples. Not sure there is much else to say here.

T - Well, I'm stuck in the same place as I was in the aroma. I taste apples and not a whole lot else. Not that this is a bad thing since this is apple ale after all. Crisp and clean.

M - Crisp, clean and quite carbonated.

Overall - Entirely too easy to drink. There is alcohol in here? That's trouble. New Glarus' ability to feature fruit is remarkable.

I am usually not this short with my reviews, but this one is simple. a crisp, clean, lightly carbonated sparkling apple cider. Clean and clear in appearance, not much of a head, smells like apple cider, tastes like apple cider. I think you could even serve it warm with a cinnamon stick and it would be good!

Price: $2.25 Served In: Snifter
