22 oz bottle picked up from Arbor Place Beverage in Douglasville, GA. Served up in a tulip.
A: Pours up deep, mahogany brown colored body. Held to the light, more of those red hues push through and really brighten up the beer. The body is dark but noticeably clear with a slow moving carbonation activity. The pour produced a very weak and loose tan head that falls quickly. No lace and no retention.
S: The aroma is just beautiful. Starts off with big notes of sweet chocolate and sharp cinnamon. This shifts effortlessly into the spicy and earthy chilies. Not too spicy, just spot on. Caramel rounds out the aroma. Just beautiful.
T: Not much unlike the nose. Starts off with the sharp cinnamon that brings a little heat. The chocolate, caramel and toffee notes sweeten things up a bit and intermingle wonderfully with the cinnamon. The chilies bring just a light resurgence of heat but most some earthy, vegetable notes that add a depth of flavor. Everything works here.
M: Medium bodied with a lighter carbonation. On the palate, there is heat from the cinnamon and chilies that lingers. ABV doesn't really create and heat at all and is not very noticeable. Aftertaste is all chilies and cinnamon that lingers for just a bit.
OA: This beer has been the surprise hit of the year for me. Everything about this beer is awesome. YOu can read the ingredients and flavors and expect this beer to be just an overwhelming mess, but it avoids that easily. The only gripe I could possibly muster is the appearance could be a bit better but that is reaching. Just a great beer that I can't seem to get enough of. Highly recommend.
