22oz Bomber
Binny's Oland

Moylans just recently started distributing to Illinois and although I've seen the Hopsickle around this is the first time I've spotted the IPA. This IPA pours a surprisingly bright golden with a moderate haze. A few streams of large carbonation bubbles crawl to the dense rocky white head. This beer leaves some respectable sheet lacing down the glass after each drink.

I've sampled the Moylander IIPA a few times in the past and one of the things I loved was the huge hop resins in both the aroma and flavor. Their IPA sports those same great resins that make my mouth water. While the resins are there, there's also a big healthy dose of white grapefruit (unsweetened of course) all over the top of some ultra pale cake like malts. My nose tells me this is going to be a bitter IPA.

This is my style of IPA big hoppiness with a tongue stomping bitterness. Luckily there's not a lot of that pesky malt to get in the way. There's enough cake like maltiness to let you know it's there but it's quickly brushed aside for the sake of hoppy goodness. Again that resinous leathery hoppiness comes through and takes thing over before being accompanied by bitter grapefruit. The bitterness grows from mid-palate throughout the swallow.

This IPA has a medium body with just the right amount of carbonation to keep things moving. Prickly carbonation combines with a slick body to compliment the body nicely.

A bomber of this is a pure pleasure to drink. Another bomber would be even better. My only reservation is the big hoppiness stomping on my tongue and not letting me fully enjoy another bomber the way I should.

This turned out to be another great IPA from Moylans. I'm ecstatic to be able to get the Moylander, Hopsickle, and the IPA here in Illinois. A bomber of this for $3.79 is a bargain hard to beat these days in Chicagoland.

Dull dark golden yellow. Huge crispy topping of whitish foam that fizzles away quick to leaves a whole bunch of bubbles and some skimming on top. Tons of lacing in tight broken strings sticks to the glass like glue.

Aroma is quite nice with a pungent display of citrusy hoppyness that stands tall, fairly bright, and crisp with orange peels, lemon juice, and partial white grapefruit. Nice floral notes add in a fresh hop cone herbalness and spice.

Taste is very solid for an IPA and tasty to boot with a rounded, malty, tender, sweetness capped with a high ended snap and mild crunch of citric hoppyness that says white grapefruit and floral orangeyness. Fluffy hoppy texture leaves a long drying, leafy bittering.

Strong, medium/fullish, healthy body of rounded, crisp hoppy fluff and boldness with a solid floating center of sweet malt. Nice "Two-Hearted" realm, or likeness in its tone, length, and finish.

This is some solid stuff and its as drinkable as it can be for being so lengthy in its hoppy finish. Yum!

Color is darkish amber, slightly darker than some in the style I've seen. Smell is all hops. Citrus, a bit of pine, floral. But lots of citrus on the nose. This one smells very promising. Taste follows that nicely. Not too bitter, which is perfect for the style. Lots of citrus, floral also. Aftertaste is slightly bitter, but good. Feel is a bit light, but lingers just long enough.

Overall, this is simply a very very good IPA. Typical for a superb California mirco brewer like Moylan's.

Nice amber pour with a light foam head. Nice lacing. Smell is kinda light, floral hops. Taste is smooth, nice hop flavor. Really nice, easy drinking IPA.
