Christmas Eve beer at Town Hall - awesome start to the holidays! Drank from a generic pint glass.
Appearance- Pours pitch black with a nice big one finger dark tan head. A great cap and collar is maintained the entire beer along with loads of thick lacing. Great looking beer.
Smell- Has that very distinct Town Hall cherry scent that adorns all of their cherry beers. Not sure what cherries they use but they are distinct. A touch of dark roast that adds a touch of char to the nose but it's very light. Crisp and clean smelling with not much else going on.
Taste- Starts with a light and dry kiss of chocolate that is earthy and almost chalky. A bitter roast is also present before a nice mélange of cherry swoops in. Its not super powerful by any means as it just lends a light tart bite underneath the roast. The finish is ushered in by more of that dry, slightly bitter toast that lingers and lingers.
Mouthfeel- Nice full body with light tickle of carbonation. Dry finish.
Drinkability- Really nice beer but not the greatest in the line of Festivus. Last years was really really good though! The cherry is nice but I would like to see it kicked up a few notches. Overall tasty though- I enjoyed.
