appearance: dark brown...darker than expected, little head but nice clinging and lacing left on glass.
smell: chocolate, malty, bready goodness...kiss of hops in there too.
taste: bread, baker's chocolate, slight roast. really nice...i could drink lots of this. the abv is completely hidden.
mouthfeel: near perfect for the style IMO. nice and smooth.
Overall: got this on a trip back east to visit my folks and brought it back to Minneapolis to put it up against a midwestern brown. drank with a Bell's Best Brown. In retrospect, a Surly Bender would have been a better choice as it is closer to the Clown Shoes brew in look, taste, character...the Bell's goes for more of a lighter caramelly brown ale whereas the Bender and this brew are darker, roastier, and more robust. Overall, a great experience and a beer I will revisit in the future.
