22 oz bottle thanks to Ender. Served up in a nonic pint.
A: Pours up a seemingly black body that has some nice gloss to it. Held to the light, the truth shows it is an incredibly dark brown with just the faintest dark red hues pushing through. The pour got me a finger of dark mocha colored foam. Head retention is a little weak. Lacing is spotty.
S: Smell starts off with a bit of acid. A little bit of dark fruit and cherry. Dark, bitter chocolates. Some light roasted coffee in there. Behind all of that is some peppery qualities and just a touch of smoke. In there is just a touch of wet cardboard.
T: Things switch gears a bit here. Starts off with some dark chocolate and chocolate milk. This chocolate is complimented by a really nice light smoke quality. Caramel and coffee make an appearance. Some earthy hoppiness adds some bitterness and works with the light tart cherry quality. A lot going on but it all works.
M: Heavier side of medium in feel with a decent carbonation to it. Bounces from sweet, to bitter, to lightly tart on the palate. This beer is a bit boozy and brings some heat on the throat and in the belly. Aftertaste is some dark cherry and chocolate.
OA: Damn tasty. Has everything a porter should have with the weight a Baltic should. Full of flavor and just a ton going on. Tasty shiz. Thanks, Dave!
