Received this brew as an extra from the ever generous Northernbrews. I LOVE almost any beer with fruit in it so this has got me excited. Drank from my Ithaca Excelsior tulip.

Appearance- Glugs a super dark reddish brown with a small half finger dirty white head. No cap remains but a teeny tiny collar manages to hang around. Zippo lacing.
Smell- Super dark and earthy smelling with a bit of raisin and dark tart cherries. The fruit is definitely luscious smelling and honestly if I didn’t know better I’m not 100% sure that I’d guess this was cherries in here. Has an Old Ale nose to it and smells slightly medicinal and slightly sweet. Plenty of caramel is noticeable and just a hint of chocolate. Nothing about the nose says sour in the least, but it’s still a solid nose.
Taste- Interesting. The cherries are more on the dark fruity side than on the brash tart side but are definitely the focal point. Probably the most cherry flavor I’ve tasted in a beer since New Glarus’s Belgium Red. A bit of sweetness is present from a liberal amount of caramel as is a touch of coffee (yes, coffee). A bit of light spice and something that seriously reminds me of cinnamon. The beer isn’t sour in the least but I have a really hard time believing this is 11.5% because I don’t get even the lightest amount of warming.
Mouthfeel- Big thick brew that has little to no carbonation and an almost syrupy feel.
Drinkability- Kind of a strange brew overall but still enjoyed the shit out of it. The cherries are front and center just how I like em. Not sure if this will sour up a bit more with some age on it but I’m glad I enjoyed fresh. Thanks much Jeff!
