22 oz bottle I picked up from Hop City in Atlanta a while back. Served it up in a nonic pint.

A: Pours up a dark amber/brown colored body. Held to the light, a whole lot more red hues come through. The body is clear and there isn't much carbonation going on in there. The pour got me over a finger of off white to beige colored head. The head retention is good, falling very slowly to a complete to cap. Lace is sticky and all over the glass. Thick, coating sheets all over the glass.

S: Things start off with some hoppy goodness. Picking up on mostly pine but there is a little herbal action to be had as well. Things take a turn for the malty with some roastiness and caramel sweetness. Not a whole lot else going on in here but it smells quite good. Everything works together with a big hearty aroma.

T: Things kind of switch gears here. Start off very malty. Mostly bready, touch of roasty and fades slowly into some sweet caramel and toffee notes. Gets a little nutty and earthy. Hops push through for the finish with some light bitterness. Herbal, grassy, but mostly pine resin.

M: Medium bodied but a very light carbonation. Makes things a bit heavy for a red, sticky and coating at times. If the carbonation was a bit more, I think it wouldn't have the lingering sweetness it has. ABV is light, just a touch of warmth in the throat. Aftertaste is some lingering pine.

OA: Not bad at all. Has some good flavors for a red ale, but for some reason I was expecting a hoppier take on the style. Even though it remains sweet, it works well. I could go for a bit more carbonation and that is really my only justifiable gripe here. Jailhouse has done nothing but make great beers in my experience. This one may not fall into the great category, but it certainly is in the very good area.
