I got a growler of this in a BiF and killed it without issue last night all myself. I may feel like ass this morning, but I also won $10 from BeerTruth who said I couldn't kill it and make it in to work on time today. Sucker.
The pour was beautiful, the head was big and white atop a clear, medium amber/orange body. I haven't had a beer look that nice in a glass in a bit. The smell made me shout out "Pliny!", it was almost exactly the same profile with the sticky pine of the hops hitting first, followed by a heavy dose of citrus that makes your mouth pucker before even taking a sip.
Kryptonite is a hop bomb with class. The hops attack your pallet and coat the mouth, yet the slightly sweet caramel of the malt comes to save the day at the finish. It is dry without causing cotton mouth. Also, 9% what? You know it is 9% at the end of the first pint only by your buzz, it is not present at all in the taste. That is an awesome.
Iron Hill always exceeds my expectations, at all of their locations. This imperial IPA is no exception, it may become my new favorite DIPA and definitely my favorite Iron Hill brew. It is exactly what I look for in a DIPA, hop overload with character. That is a combo not easily achieved in a successful fashion by many who attempt it.
