Life Without Principle #3 by Hill Farmstead Brewery
American Blonde Ale
5.50 % ABV

Life Without Principle #3 is the next entry in our series of citrus and citrus-inspired beers. This chapter in the story was brewed with Citra and Motueka hops, as well as an abundance of hibiscus for tartness and citrusy aromas.

750ml growler picked up at Hill Farmstead with a best by of 10-12-13 (I like to live on the edge). Served up in a HF Willi.

A: Pours orange in color with light golden hues with a creamy white head. In bright light, the beer definitely has a faint rosy, pink hue to it. Lightly hazy in appearance. Head has decent retention for a growler and leaves some wisps of lace on the glass.

S: The aroma starts with punch of Citra. Just a ton of citrus (grapefruit, orange), tropical (grapefruit, mango) and floral notes. Very juicy. Just a touch of hibiscus. Basically smells like a hoppy PA or IPA which is always pleasant.

T: Lots of hop flavor but very little hop bitterness. Grapefruit is dominant, Mandarin oranges along with various other citrus and tropical flavors follow. Somehow not bitter or sweet, just a good stroke of balance. Hibiscus is minimal, but does bring a light tart quality.

M: Light in body with medium carbonation to it. The beer is actually a bit thin, which would be my biggest gripe. ABV plays zero role here. Aftertaste is all citrus.

OA: Incredibly drinkable and refreshing. It's the type of beer you could literally drink all day. Although thin, it more than makes up for that with flavor and beautiful nose. Damn nice beer.
