My main man from Philly procured me a growler of this fine brew because I’m pretty sure he has a man crush on me. This will be my first brew from Hill Farmstead but I’ve heard great things! Drank from my Ithaca nonic pint glass.
Appearance- Pours a hazy orange yellowish with a decent half finger bright white head that looks thick and creamy. A decent cap and thick collar remains with a bit of random lacing strewn about.
Smell- Loads of juicy grapefruit seem to burst out of the glass along with a touch of sweet orange peel. Not particularly ‘bitter’ smelling as the fruitiness has a sort of sweet maltiness behind it. A touch of pine and some earthy grass but that grapefruit is all I can seem to smell. As it warms a touch of butterscotch and a light whiff of alcohol show.
Taste- Holy grapefruit Batman!! It’s like someone sprinkled a little sugar on a grapefruit, squeezed it and poured it into my glass. Perhaps a touch of peach mixed in for good measure but the grapefruit is absurd!! It’s got the lightest touch of sweetness behind all that fruitiness yet still finishes light and dry. A long linger of grapefruit and orange zest lingers.
Mouthfeel- Medium body with a nice crisp bite of carbonation and an oily dry finish.
Drinkability- Really tasty brewski here. I’ve tried a lot of IPA’s over the years and I love when I get to try something a bit different than all the rest and it still manages to be really good. Not sure what the hop profile of this beer is but it reminds me of Kern River Citra and some of those Troegs Scratch IPA’s – except good. Very enjoyable, thanks much Jeff!!
