Received this as an extra in a recent trade with beavers, thanks again Mike! Highland Oatmeal Porter pours black with mahogany highlights. When backlit the whole body takes on a deep mahogany color and glows ruby with the light directly behind the body. A standard pour brought about a two finger khaki head that, as it slowly fell, became incredibly creamy and left some nice patch work lacing.

I swirl the glass before I take my first good whiff and am surprised to find a decent amount of cocoa and peanut butter hidden down below. Deeper pulls give me a solid roasted maltiness that takes hold and won't let go. A touch of slightly green berries and a citric hoppiness come through on the back.

The flavor follows the aroma stride for stride. A rich roastiness starts things off and leads the way through. The roastiness is met up by cocoa, green berries, freshly ground coffee, and a citric hoppiness that ends up being fairly assertive on the finish. I really enjoy a porter, or stout for that matter, that has a nice hoppy presence on the finish. Highlands Oatmeal Porter does not disappoint.

The oatmeal adds a nice creaminess without being too filling. The body is medium and the carbonation pushes this beer through fairly quickly. A combination of the citric hoppiness, roasty bitterness, and healthy carbonation keep the tongue awake.

I could see myself easily drinking a few of these in a sitting. This is a highly drinkable and enjoyable porter. The lower abv, creamy but quick moving mouthfeel, and good flavor keep this beer flowing easily.

Oatmeal Porter is another good beer from Highland. I've become very impressed with this brewery and the more I sample from them the more I like. Thanks again for the sample Mike!

Thanks to ncvbc for this extra.

Pours a dark brown with some hints of red and two inches of soft foam.

Aroma of coffee, chocolate, nuts, oatmeal, and roasted malts. It has a really nice combination of toast, nutty aromas and sweet coffee.

Taste is of nutty and coffee flavors with toasted malt and hints of chocolate.
A bit of burnt toast and oats in the finish.

Mouthfeel is creamy and smooth. A tasty oatmeal porter that is very easy to drink.
