Many thanks to brac for sharing this one. It was one of the few on my absolutely must try list.
As expected this pours with very little head as expected from an older barleywine. Darker ruby brown in color and just a tad bit of foam resting on the top with a halo around the rim.
The aroma is just divine. Bourbon, vanilla, caramel, raisin, light oak, honey, dark pitted fruit, and the slightest bit of cardboard. Very well melded, mellow and just awesome.
Similar to the taste: bourbon, vanilla, caramel, big maple syrup, more oxidation (but it melds really well with the other flavors), less of the pitted fruits and raisin, but similarly just awesome and mellow.
Slightly syrupy, chewy and on the lower end of the carbonation scale.
This beer in one word is heavenly..
