I found a store that sold a bunch of old beer. I bought a bunch of old beer. This was one of the bunch. Googling the interwebs tells me this is likely made sometime between 2010-2012. So, good amount of age. First impression, probably too old. But not as bad as the 2010 Brooklyn Monster Ale I bought at the same store. Generally, getting the flavor loss of an aging beer. But still plenty of Belgian sweetness wrapped around a cardboard-y cola. Small halo lacing to the beer with some surface covering. Dark cola appearance. Mildly carbonated at this point and yet light soda carbonation tingling.

Old Review
12 oz bottle that came to me by way of Trailmix242. Haven't seen any Leviathan series brews around here, so this was a pleasant suprise. Served up in a chalice.

A: Pours a deep maple brown from the bottle. Held to the light you get more of an orange hue that comes out of the brown body. The body allows light through but its still hazy, leaving you unable to see completely through. Got a finger of head off the pour but it was gone immediately. It fell to the thinnest of off white rings that produces no lacing. Its ok but nothing too out of the norm or amazing.

S: Smell is pretty alcohol dominant. Lots of booze coming across here. Getting some candied sweetness coming out, a bit of malty goodness. Nice belgian yeast quality. Some raisins and prunes, but they are just soaked in all that booze coming across here.

T: Taste is not unlike the nose very much. Getting a lot of in your face booze up front. A little bit of spice (maybe some clove and nutmeg)to this dark alcohol presence. A bit of caramel and candy sweetness come out with some dark brown sugar. Lots of dark fruit tries to get through all of that booze, but the raisin, prune and maybe black cherry have a tough time competing.

M: Lighter side of full bodied. Has some wieght to it that is slightly syrupy. Heavy and serious booze presence in here. Lots of burn off the palate, throat and tummy. The booze is a bit on the crazy side. Aftertaste is all booze and a touch of fruit.

D: This one is a bit rough at times. Its got a lot of alcohol to it and I believe this really needs some time to mellow out. Maybe a year or two. Right now it is a bit too hot. Its a bit rough getting through, but I can see where Harpoon is going with this and it will probably quite good with some time. At this point in time, not so much. Its a booze bomb with some malt and light Belgian qualities. Not bad, but not quite there.
