Captain Fantasy by
Half Acre Beer Company
Saison / Farmhouse Ale7.00 % ABV
Captain Fantasy is a Saison brewed with pears and Sorachi Ace hops. The beer should be pleasantly off kilter and our time with Short's is always time well spent.

22 oz bottle from my sweet lovin dwarven kindred, Brac. Thanks for the chance, buddy. Served up in a tulip.
A: Pours aup a very apple juice colored orangish yellow. Held to light, more golden yellows push through. The body is crystal clear and holds a steady yet lazy carbonation activity. The pour got me about finger and a half of foamy white head. That head actually falls a bit quickly for a saison, but it does have some really nice lace coating the glass. Still holds a pretty dense ring throughout the experience.
S: Pears tend to have a very light smell in my opinion, and that light aroma comes across in here. Just spot pear sweetness and earthiness. Citrus hops push through with some lemony goodness and compliments all that pear. The yeast rounds things out with a touch of mustiness (dust and moisture). Very nice.
T: Start off with that citrus hops presence. A nice lemon and a bit of grapefruit peel. This shifts into all that pear. Gritty, earthy, lightly sweet. Things move into some spiciness and some pepper. touch of phenols. The yeast pushes through with that must and funk. Dusty farmhouse, wet wood, and cheesy goodness. Lots of flavor that bounces around.
M: Medium body with a carbonation on the lighter side. This beer dries out incredibly nicely. Bounces between sweet, peppery and bitter. ABV plays no factor whatsoever. Aftertaste is all hops and mustiness.
OA: Tasty and delicious. The flavors are some that I didn't expect to go well together. Pear and lemon? Not really my mixture, but all that yeast flavor really brings it together into a nice earthy and sweet saison. Incredibly easy drinking, and exceptionally poundable beer. Great stuff.

My last bomber of this :tear:
Pours into my glass a beautiful clear golden yellow with a quarter inch of white bubbles atop the brew. Aromas kick off with a great mix of crisp, slightly spicy malts along with lemony hops. Earthy accents along with plenty of pear underneath as well.
First sip brings crisp semi-sweet malts with a nice underlying peppery spiciness. Lemony, citric hops roll in (Sorachi Ace!) and mix with some earthy, grassy tones. The pear melds in as well and adds a great extra dimension to the brew that I really like. Just slight twinge of sourness on the way down.
Mouthfeel is smooth and easy drinking with great carbonation. On the lighter side and on par for a saison, albeit one with a unique American twist. Another really tasty Short's / Half Acre collaboration beer. These guys just need to keep doing more collaborations so I can keep drinking them :)
