500ml bottle I picked up from Hop City in Atlanta. This bottle is from batch 225. Served up in a Terrapin pint glass.

A: Pours a nice and shiny black liquid into the glass. Good and viscous with a nice sheen of gloss for sure. The pour got me about two fingers of medium brown colored head. Sadly, the head fell pretty quickly, but it did rest at a about a half a finger and remained that way. The liquid keeps it pretty slick on the glass with good sheen of oil, so no lace really keeps on the glass. It is not bad looking at all and really gets me stoked about drinking on it.

S: First thing that hits me when I open up the bottle is the aroma. Just a big and heavy roasted malt aroma fills the air and its glorious. Lots of dark chocolate and that smokey roast really works for me. Just a touch of vanilla in the nose. As it warms up, some spice starts to come out. I can't place them all but I am absolutely picking up on some anise. The smell is just big and lovely. Dig on it.

T: Taste isn't bad at all. Getting that nice roasted character from all the malt. Just heavy roast on that chocolate presence. Damn fine. Getting some light presence of orange from time to time. Anise is coming out as well along with other herbs and spices. There may be a little clove in here as well. I take all these spices and herbs are coming from the Akevitt and that probably explains why the flavors are a little faint and indistinguishable. Some of those flavors work and some don't. Little bit of vanilla and brown sugar round things off.

M: Full side of medium in body. Really brings a nice thickness and slickness. Carbonation has a little bit of bite (my only complaint here) to it that works with the heat of the ABV. It brings a little bit of heat to the throat but mostly stops there. Just a nice warmth. Little bitter and dry on the palate at times. Aftertaste is that lingering smoked malt and some anise.

D: I really enjoyed this. It is strange and really does have some complexity but it really did appeal to me. I can see why some people have had some issues with some of the flavors, but they work for me just fine. It just had that wonderful character of being out there but balanced, and thats great IMO. Will absolutely have this one again.
