Wood aged IPA's are an odd combo IMHO, but fun never the less. Pours a mostly clear amber color with copper hues through out. A soft white head with good retention and decent lacing through the taste. A bit dark for style but ok.

The nose is light overall but very distinct with a lot of aromas going on. The hops are noticeable but on the light end for the IIPA. Some nice citrus notes, grapefruit and lemon notes. The malt is noticeable as well, with bready and some caramel notes. I light brown malt aroma along with some toffee. The wood notes are there but more of a oak chip type of smell. Some vanilla but light overall. Noticeable alcohol aroma that is boarder line fusel.

The taste comes out more compared to the nose. A bit more complexity as well. The hops come out first with a good great citrus and herbal flavor. Good pine and grapefruit as well. The bitterness is limited as more of a hoppy taste to it. The malt comes out quickly with more of a toffee and bready note. Almost like an English IPA version (but the hops are all American). The oak flavors come out again but doesn't have that complexity that I expect from wood aged beers. Some limited vanilla notes. Some boozy notes on the back end that are a bit of a deterrent.

The body is moderate but does have a nice lingering taste. Some heat from the alcohol that I would like to see a bit cleaner. Overall a pretty good oaked IPA as everything is balanced but some recipe and fermenting issues are a bit of an issue. But still nice.
