have to say, I do like the taste of Lamb. Pours a crystal clear brown color with a reddish hue throughout. A soft white head with limited retention that hides to the side of the glass. Not much lacing overall.
The nose has a nice malty backing. Some caramel notes with a soft melanodian aroma. Some notice peat and smoke notes. There is a light yeast character that brings out a more noticeable plumy aroma. Some minor butyric and a hint of fusel notes as well.
The taste is similar but different. The malt backs off a bit as the smoky and peaty notes come through. Would have like more balance of malt and smoke. This mixes weirdly with the more noticeable butyric note. More of a dirty drains flavor. The yeast backs off compared to the nose but a light sugar plum backing balances well. The alcohol notes also back off. Some minerally almost blood like in the finish but not light.
The body is moderate. Would have liked to see more body for style. The carbonation is low but that is ok for style as well. Overall I think this is more of a smoked beer than a wee heavy. Just missing that malt complexity that Im looking for.
