Goose Island Clybourn
Goose Island's Saison pours a caramelized golden, slightly darker than the average saison. A one finger head was present on the pour that left webbed lacing down glass after each sip. Good looking saison.
Smell up front is of pale biscuity malts with a touch of caramel. Middle to the finish is big on the spicy peppery yeastiness. Some lemongrass and white pepper along with a few unidentified spices. Ends with a mild but noticeable hoppiness.
Flavor is directly in stride with the aroma. The semi-sweet maltiness up front along with a spicy middle with the hints of white pepper, spicy yeast, a touch of lemongrass, and a pleasant grassiness. This leads into the swallow. This beer just grows on you.
Mouthfeel is on the medium side but a touch thicker than I would prefer. Moderate carbonation adds a nice creaminess.
This beer is highly drinkable. The more you drink the faster you want to drink it and it goes down pretty easy.
A good saison from Goose Island. Truthfully I was kind of hesitant ordering a saison as I've had others in the past from other brewpubs that were less than stellar. This was a pleasnat surprise.
