I think this style was on What Not to Wear? Maybe not. Poured a shade closer to dark brown than a roasty black color. Whatever color it has the opposite highlights throughout. A light frothy lighter tan head with limited retention and lacing. Both did not last through the tasting.
The nose is nicely represented. Mostly malty notes with a bigger astringent kick and a floral finish. To start the malt is limited overall with some generic flavors that mix with a most roast and black malt flavor. Some lighter almost smoke and licorice finishes as well. Some lighter earthy and floral hops with mostly finishing aromas. No real off flavors or yeast characteristics.
The taste is a bit more balanced but toned down versus he nose. The malt again plays more of a dominant role with stronger astringent taste that leaves a coffee and burnt finishes. A bit too much black. Some English malt hints with a nice subtle characteristics. A light buttery finish but fits style right on. The hops are limited. Not much bittering hops at all. And the finish has more of a floral finish. There is a soapy finish that really is a deterrent for me.
The body is more of mid feel and a light carbonation, spot on with a more London style. Overall there are some great aspects and there are some off aspects of this beer. One thing I like about this beer is that it created a lot of discussion on style with both porter and London porter. I think I will leave it at that.
