Exit 3 - Blueberry Braggot by Flying Fish Brewing Company
15.00 % ABV

Exit 3 is the gateway to a lot of farmland, so we’re using one the state’s favorite crops– blueberries. Braggot is an ancient style– written about since the 12th century. This Braggot features local blueberries and honey, a very limited amount of hops and is fermented with Belgian-style yeast. The result is a straw colored beer with blueberry highlights. On the first sip you will note a light sweetness along with citrus notes followed by a well rounded malt character. The beer has a medium full body.

Malt: Belgian Pilsner
Hops: Horizon
Other: Sweet orange peel, lemon peel, NJ honey, Hammonton, NJ blueberries
Yeast: Belgian, finished with Champagne
Original Gravity: 29º plato
Alcohol by volume: 15%
IBUs: 10
Formats: 750 ml bottles, extremely limited draft
Availability: One time only

This is a dessert beer, pairs well with a nice aged cheddar.

12oz bottle. Poured into a small Hill Farmstead stemmed glass. Clear. Small head, light lacing. Aroma is sweet and fruity biscuit. Aroma is lightly tinged with alcohol. Flavor is similarly a generic berry and sweetness. Not heavy sweetness or estery fruit. The end hits you with a fruity more malty flavor and the sipping aspect of the beer. Otherwise, it’s way too easy drinking. Also, it comes off as a Belgian without having any Belgian characteristics. Like a strong golden but obviously missing the Belgian malts and yeast. I know that sounds weird. Now, while alcohol is there is a smooth 15%. I’m also not a big fan of honey in beers but here I can’t really tell it’s honey. I’m a fan, I buy this about once a year.
