Thanks to Tip Top for the growler. Cool monkey face on the cap. The growler's cap, not Jeff's. No idea what's on his.

Opaque brown with very little head at first, but then carbonation wells up to the surface. Strange. Aroma is like someone put some coconut into coffee with a shot of cocoa. Enticing but not in the usual beer way.

Damn, that's different - starts with an intial coconut whiff that makes me worry it'll be cloying but it never gets there. A nice, mildly roasty maltiness with hints of coffee and dark cocoa kicks in immediately after, bringing a sense of balance to it all. There's a hit of vanilla, almost a mildly barrel-aged flavor, that comes in in the middle - not sure if that's the coconut or not. Relatively dry, with a roasted grain flavor in the back of it. The coconut is there all the way through, present at levels just below overpowering, but it's still clearly a porter first, colada second. Faint alcohol and vague earthy hops appear in the finish. Medium mouthfeel without a lot of carbonation - but then if this came anywhere near a live coconut you won't get a whiff of carbonation.

Really a neat brew - if you remember the original Sam Adams Longshot hazelnut brew, it's almost but not quite that nutty. Kicks serious big time with dark chocolate.
