I’ve had a few Drake’s brews, but none have been stellar – not bad, but not stellar. The Denoginizzer falls in that category - not a great bee but not bad for what it is – a double IPA – though it really tastes so malty that I would classify it as a triple IPA leaning toward a red ale and with so much malt, it is almost stout like. Having said that – you can certainly smell the hops as it pours from a 22oz. bottle. The initial nose is all grapefruit and pine, but as it settles in the glass, the next smell is malt. The initial taste is malt all the time and nothing but the malt – it is truly reminiscent of Guinness Stout. As the beer settles and gets a bit warmer, it is really a malt bomb and the 9.75% alcohol begins to show through. So, an IPA? Nah… a double IPA? Nah… a triple IPA? Maybe. A red ale? Nah. A stout? I would say so – very close to being a stout with some hops added.
