American Beauty by Dogfish Head Craft Brewery
American Double / Imperial Pale Ale
9.00 % ABV

It's Called American Beauty, an Imperial Pale Ale inspired by the Grateful Dead. The best way to capture 30 years, more than 100 live albums, 2,300 shows? Let the loyal fans drive the recipe. Among thousands of suggestions, granola was tops. It was the main course in millions of parking lot meals and is a sweet and toasty complement to the all-American hops and barley. There was something different about a Dead show. Whether you saw one or 100, you felt it. IF you could have bottled it...

A- This beer pours a crystal clear deep orange body with a quick carb. There is a sticky thick beige head that last a good bit.

S- A flinty granola and oat aroma leads to some pine hops blended with citrus skins that have a perfumed quality to them and some silage aroma that comes through as it warms.

T- Full resin hops with a musty character to it and some granola flavor comes through as it opens. There is a green cinnamon hop spice that lingers a bit after each sip.

M- The light mouthfeel has a nice alcohol warmth in the finish that helps cut the soft sweetness.

O- This is a nice drinking complex Imperial Pale Ale. Good malt character with full hops that have nice depth and the alcohol and sweetness are softer than the hops but support each other.

A great spring time beer! Too bad I drank it in winter.

Bottle was cool. Slightly different than most. Poured smooth and left a white head about two fingers thick that left a lot of lacing on the glass.

Golden in color

Smelled like oats. Lots of great aroma coming off of it and the smell seemed to endure a little more than some beers that pour with a strong aroma then taper off.

Initially I thought the taste was ok but it grew on me as I drank it. The after taste was fantastic (that's when the granola kicked int). The imperial pale ale could stand on it's own but the granola really made it fun.

Price: $13.00 Served In: Pint Glass
