It pours a slightly hazy orange gold with a solid 1 finger head of foam, loads of bubbles rising up, and it has some fine lacing.
The smell is yeasty with a hint of some horse blanket(not much, mind you), spicy(white pepper, others), and some fruity notes. To me, it smells like a Saison..
That fruitiness, yeah, definitely pomegranate, with some definite spicy notes, again white pepper others, yeasty, mild on both the sweet and bitter. I like pomegranate so that's okay how evident it is in the taste. Okay, I was looking for some hint or 2 of the barrel goodness and I think I found them; some slight vannila with a bit of a winey tartness. No alcohol to mention in the taste but it sure does a hella job of warming the throat and tummy.
Medium bodied, lively carbonation, just an above average mouthfeel for my tastes.
1 Bottle at a sitting? For me, definitely yes. It would make a good nightcap.
Overall, A good to very good beer that, I don't know, doesn't fit the style *too* well but I've come across other "Quads" that resemble that remark. I'm curious about the best by label; I would think this would "gain" from some cellaring.
