12oz Bottle

I received a bottle of this in another great trade with BitterBill, in an overly full box of beer. Thanks Bill! Bachelor ESB empties from the bottle a fairly clear tarnished copper. Two fingers worth of clean white head formed on the pour and rather quickly fell to a skim coat, leaving some nice patchy lacing on its way. Large carbonation bubbles creep to the surface and keep the skimming where it's at.

This ESB has an interesting aroma, very mineralish over the top of biscuity malts and a drizzling of caramel. There's a solid grassy hoppiness, which is what I expect from and American ESB, along with a touch of citrus in there as well. A little sweetness evens things out.

This is a damn good brew! The malt and hoppiness seem to balance each other out until a nice soft grassy and citric bitterness takes over. Much like the aroma suggests the malts come across biscuity and drizzled with caramel to add a touch of sweetness. The grassy hoppiness balances things out and a ghost like wave of citrus comes through.

The body is nicely dialed in but, this is just me being picky, the carbonation seems to be a little aggressive for the style. The carbonation seems just a little prickly.

This is definitely an easy drinker with a lot of flavor to boot. Good session ability from an American style ESB.

Deschutes makes some quality brew and this is no exception. It's tough to find good American ESBs but this fits the bill. Thanks again for the sample Bill!

A - Amber colored body with the slightest haze to it. Pours a nice fluffy one and a half inch head. Decent retention and super sticky lacing.

S - Sharp citrus hop notes. Slightly fruity with hints of caramel malt.

T - Starts of fruity sweet. Light caramel malt is present here. Lemony hops hit with a slight bite at the end and a bit of a twang. Simple, but tasty.

M - Medium bodied with mostly smooth carbonation that produces a slight prick at the end.

D - Not bad at all for an ESB, which is a style I don't usually get into.

Thanks to Duckboy for the bottle.
