So how do you say the name? Pours a very dark chestnut brown (think brown porter) with darker shades of black hue through out. Pretty hazy with a pour head and limited retention and lacing.
The nose is complex with a combination of sweeter malt and fruity esters. To start the malt is very complex with muted caramel and toffee notes. Some sugary almost brown sugar finish leaves a candy like aroma. Nice balance of fruity notes with plums, raisins, figs and lighter cherries. Some woody characteristics as well. Hints of vanilla and oak but light. Noticeable fusel alcohol but blends well.
The flavor falls in line well. Similar to the nose a nice balance between malt and esters. The malt is light up front with more caramel and a hint of roast. But this is quickly replaced with a sweet sugary note. A more complex malt/sugar note that leaves a sweet finish through out. The esters come out nicely with figs and plums mostly. The solvent alcohol notes are more perceivable but do balance well.
Very impressed with the finish. There is a lot going on here but everything is blended well and really leaves a nice aftertaste and body. Very enjoyable beer.
