Stark black, opaque and thick set, no head, a few dark brown bubbles urge up around the edge, lace is nil as well.
Aroma has a mild tone and overall low-keyed nose, has a good portion of vanilla, hazelnut, sweet chocolate, and caramel, has a thin roasty hint along with some kind of undetermined fruityness.
Taste has a balancing act between mild roast qualities and sweet malts and fruits. The fruit seems like pear and slight orange which sits mostly underneath a moderate bittering black malt astringency, coffeeness, and burnt barley. The flavors are quite nice, not overly intense or brutish, it favors more of a smooth, rich smoothability and drinkability. Where as the feel and body goes, so goes the drinkability with this stuff. Sweet creamy body and bulky rich feel, slick and buttery, bold and slides right down. Finish is a partial mix of cocoa and roasty drying and tidbits of the sweeter stuff sticking.
Dark Horse seems to have their brews solidly built, as I have yet to be diappointed by one yet. The stouts are all top notch treats. As is this.
