I don't understand what the label is. Pours a midnight black color with some ruby red highlights. A good pour left a good sized tan head. Good retention as it hid around the edge of the glass and good lacing.

The nose has a nice stout aroma but no real smoke. Malt notes come out nicely with some roast and chocolate notes. Some lactic quality that seems more of a milky aroma versus oat-like characteristics. Some lighter esters, cherries and raisins. Some minor yeast notes but ok. A light vanilla note as well.

The taste brings out the smoke and balances nicely with the stout. To start the malt brings out more of a chewy essences with the roast backing off and more of a chocolate notes. The astringency is minimal. This allows a very nice smoke to come out with more of a liquid smoke flavor (versus meaty). Some silkiness that is more of a diactyl then lactic. Some milky undertones. A light yeast character but soft overall. Minor notes of raisins and figs. Some lighter hop notes with a more earth and pepper finish.

Body is moderate with some nice chewy textures. Carbonation is light but ok. So I could see how this beer would be considered off as the smoke is moderate, but for me I think it is right on. Doesn't overpower the beer and blends nicely. Some minor brewing notes, but still tasty.

Black and opaque...waftingly large dark tanned, beefy, foamed capping laps up to top the blackness with might. The head retained its girth briefly and lacing is minimal with a few stretched out strings.

Aroma is mostly of chocolate and a bit of roast. There's a nice partial smokeyness as well thats deep and broading mixing with a bit of warmth.

Solid taster with a firm chocolatey tone thats bold and lasting with undertones to bittered espresso, slightly burnt cream, slight tang to dark cherry and a very well placed smokeyness puffing about with a deeply set balance. Bittered chocolate finish with puffy dryness and a tiny titch of hops.

Creamy, nearly full body, lofty, lengthy, smooth, chocolatey, and a hovering dryness that creates a pleasant cocoa powder fluff across the palate.

Drinkable times Fore! A great stout by Dark Horse!

Thanks to beaglfoot for this brew>

Pours like oil. Thick, dark rust color head forms and fades into a nice layer all the way around the brew. The smell is nice. Very good blends of chocolate, alcohol, and burnt malts. The smoke is light, but there. Sweet caramel is there also. Whoa, so there is smoke in this bad boy. After a swig the smoke settles into burnt malts and some chocolate. Light alcohol aftertaste works well with the other flavors. Mouth might be a touch thinner than expected. Really expected a chewy feel followiung the pour and swirls. Still, very drinkable brew. Really glad I got to try this brew. Cheers
