Bottle from the cellar that I never marked - so really no idea of the age on this one. Pours into my glass a deep garnet with a wisp of khaki bubbles on top that fades away. Good bubbly carbonation still. Aromas kick off with a bold mix of caramel, sherry and deep dark fruits. Raisins and figs with a touch of chocolate as well. Big malt sweetness.

First sip is a cornucopia of maltiness. Caramel, cherry, sherry and a wealth of dark fruit flavors roll across the palate. A touch of fig, raisin and chocolate as it flows down along with a bitter hop kick. Sweetness is quite present here and I'm not the biggest fan of that, however overall this is a bold, flavor packed barleywine. ABV makes itself known as well!

Mouthfeel is rather viscous and a bit syrupy as well. Good carbonation. A little bit heavy on the sweet side for me personally. Overall, a pretty solid barleywine and definitely a heavy hitter on the ABV. Good sipper for the evening. This could have easily aged another 5 to 10 years.

Liquid spills a wickedly dark blood in the shadows. Headless to the point of only bubbles squirting from the neck. Windy and scrapy splattered lace is left on the windows.

The stick and stink of the days' heat still slumbers here as the nightly cloaked mist of darkened fruit intangles plum and black cherry heat, fleeced and rising from the ashes of a heavy cigar recently smoked to the ring; filling an alumnium can that has the top torn off...Freshly lacquered pine tar persists from the area as the rooftops nearby are still drying after a long summers' day work.

Bold clues to the violation insight the heat may have had something to do with it. Heavy and thick dark caramel sit on a tar stained chair. Smoke still clings to the ceiling. Pine resin tried to escape the area but never got far as it was far too heavy and bitterly soaked with dark plummy deposits. Massive amounts of residue lead to more tar and pine thats been soaked through to the surface.

The air sits thick and rich with smoke. Heat still remains from the day. Smooth currents of air breeze by, but you still need to remove your hat to let some short soothing time aid you until you finally wipe the salty, full, dark fruits from your brow as you examine more of the "why". But that doesn't help, as the beads continue to break and the heat just won't cool off this night. Unforgiving to the point of swimming in over your very own thoughts. Succulant pine tar dances into the mind with thick finger prints left on the palate.

The pieces finally come together when you find empty, big brown bottles along the window sill. It seems as if 3 guys were enjoying themselves with conversation and ribbing when the heat finally consumed them and sent them out looking for more of the passionate heat that drove them to empty those exact same bottles.

More clues arise as the liquid found was not as it seemed. Someone of the 3 had spilled the very treat they were enjoying and left without haste to supply the demand needed to forget the very woes of working on the rooftops that day.

This one has a wax sealed cap and there was a little hiss when finally cracking it. This beer pours a nice ruby color that seems to stick to the glass and you can barely see through. No head, a very very tiny layer of bubbles along the outside of the glass.

Smell is sweet, hard to describe what I am smelling.. A sweet fruit like raisins maybe?

Taste is interesting, DH says it has raisin, chocolate, carmel, sherry, cherry, and alcohol, I can pick out the chocolate and cherry lightly, the alcohol and sherry are more prominent. I think this one needs a little more time on it to mellow out.

Good mouthfeel, a little bit of a bite on it, but the carbonation and thinkness are appropriate for its style.

Overall, good beer, especially considering it's very high ABV, some age on this will probably do it wonders.
