A Pro-Am beer brewed with Matthew Burton and Coops. Arrived a midnight black color with...whoa...I can smell it from here. To continue, a light red hue around the edges, but mostly blacken color. A soft tan head with good retention and lacing through out the tasting.

The smell, yea, is noticeable from the table. A very spicy aroma with noticeable chai. A more herbal variety with hints of earthiness, cloves and nutmeg through out. A light peppermint on the backend and seems to come out a bit more as it warms. Some hints of roast and chocolate but the spice dominates the aroma. Some light phenolics but mostly clean.

The taste is a bit more balance with beer and spiced. The chai is very distinct and comes out. Some lighter clove and bready notes but no where near what the nose indicated. Very herbal in a way. The malt backing is very nice and leaves a lingering taste. Some oat meal and sweetness. There is a light roast and distinctive dark chocolate that linger into the finish. A very nice smooth finish with a light earthy hope note but is limited with the spice.

The body is between moderate and full. A good creamy texture, this is more along the lines of a oat meal stout and imperial. A bit filling. Some minor alcohol but very clean. Overall a tasty beer and I hope it does well at the 09 GABF (it didn't :( ).
