A - Pour produces a small tan head made up of various sized bubbles. Reduces to a thin skim on the surface and a big thick bead around the edges. Nice lacing sticking to the sides of the glass. Body is dark amber in color and clean.
S - Lots of caramel and toffee up front without an overwhelming sweetness. A bit toasty. Sticky, resiny hops attempt to balance things out. Very much a big, hoppy red ale.
T - Starts off with a nice toasty malt flavor. Quickly works into a mild sweetness with caramel being heavy and light toffee. Tastes like there could be a bit of rye in here. Depsite having rather low IBUs, there is a nice hop presence here, with an herbal bitterness that takes hold for a bit. Finish is a mixture of smooth malt and hop bitterness, both playing in unison. Light sticky hop bitterness aftertaste.
M - On the heavy side of medium bodied with sticky hops. Carbonation is medium to low and smooth.
Overall - Very enjoyable and well balanced brew here. Along the lines of Lagunitas Imperial Red and a bigger Arrogant Bastard. Recommended.
