One of my favorite Indianapolis beers. Pour was a cloudy orange to amber color. A good head that retains for some time but after a good amount of time retreats to the edge of the glass. There, it remained for the whole tasting. Decent lacing but decrease over time.
The smell was pronounced with a nice blend of Belgium. A good sweet nose, the most noticeable characteristic I found was the banana esters and the spiciness consisting of mostly cloves, nutmeg and cinnamon. Some sweeter pale Belgium malts and a not too overpower yeast notes round out the beer.
The taste is just as noticeable. The Belgium-ness is more noticeable in the taste then the smell. The banana and spice taste continues. There is a bready quality that reminds me more of cookies then maltiness. The malt is not really complex but definitely supports and even heightens the other fruity and sweeter tastes. The aftertaste a touch of citrus with some malt undertones. Overall it has a big flavorful taste.
The after taste is really sweet but nothing overkill. The phenol is hidden well but becomes more noticeable as it warms. Overall I thought this was a excellent Tripel. Unlucky more me though they were so new to the scene they didn’t have growlers yet.
