The wife grabbed this one for me tonight, thanks again baby!
Bottle 142, bottled on 9/26/08.
Cork literally shot out of the bottle, and gushed STRONGLY into the bowl I instinctively put the bottle in. Once the fireworks slowed down, I poured some into a Duvel Tulip. The beer is very dark brown, almost black, with 5+ fingers of rocky dark tan head. It slowly recedes, and leaves tons of chunky lacing all over the glass.
It smells of dark roasted malt and strong alcohol. There's some vinous dark fruit and chocolate aroma that comes out after a while. I'm also getting some sweet apple smell, which seems out of place, but not bad.
The flavor mostly follows the nose, with plenty of roast and warming alcohol. The dark fruit is strong, with slight hints of chocolate, and some residual sweetness. The burnt malt really lingers throughout the flavor.
This is a full bodied beer, with low carbonation, and a nice dry finish. The alcohol is pretty perceptible, but still tasty. It took some work to get through it by myself, but that could be the shitty hangover I've had all day too. Highly recommended, I loved it and will definitely pick up more later.
