Very dark and murky brown, nearly black appearance. Capped well with a medium sized biege crown of firm and fluffy foam. Some patchy stringed lace is placed about the glass and it keeps a slight skim and collar the entire session.

Aroma is pruney with dark tangy maltedness. Bright raisin ascents as well as some lower leveled molasses and caramel. A bit of smokey peat and nuttyness also nips at the nose as it sits.

Taste is bit one dimensional with a flattened sense of some maltyness that brings to life a bit of dark and dulled fruit skins and mushy caramel. Clean, but a bit too sharp and Belgian-like for it to be what a Scottish ale would usually bring. Middle areas and the finish are loose and empty without much activity in tone and length.

Feel is just under a medium body, malty with a peppy carbonation that takes away from it being smoother then it should or could be. Unfortunately this was nothing like I'd hope it was going to be. Seemingly a pretty standard take on a Belgian dark with only the slightest of a Scottish kilt kick.

Price: $8.99 Served In: Goblet
