Pours a dark ruddy brown with a thick frothy two finger head that slowly recedes to a thick layer of foam and leaves behind a thick webbing lace.
Smell is fruity: plums, a little banana, and some mild cherry. there's a fairly pronounced yeast profile in the nose, with some sweetness from the candied sugar. It's bit on the vinous side with the fruits and a touch of alcohol.
Taste is of dark fruits: plums/raisins, with a strong malt presence, and somewhat chalky yeastiness. It's a touch on the sweet side sweet, without being too much. I could feel the alcohol much more than it came through to strongly in the flavor. Has a very rich and smooth, full bodied mouthfeel, and goes down .very easily
This is my third beer from Ommegang, and they are quickly becoming one of my favorite breweries.

I picked up a 22 in Omaha Nebraska’s Wild Oats. Poured a rich dark red with murky brown highlights when held to the light. An ample head with limited lace. The head retention remains but did not last throughout the whole tasting.
The aroma is sweet but more malty then what I consider a “Belgian-esk” smell. A great fragrance of malt with plums more then raisins and a hint of peach or at least a fruitiness quality.
The taste is very rich. A good presence of malt that is complex, smooth and tasty. A stronger plum flavor with a lighter spice quality. Lighter in the spices, more cloves and nutmeg but maybe some cinnamon too. The aftertaste has a banana and molasses quality that mixes well. Also a taste of sweetness like brown sugar. One thing I just have to repeat is the rich smoothness it has.
The body is medium to full. Limited carbonation. Overall a good Abbey ale. A stronger malty then a average Abbey. Also the yeast is a more subtle. Well, my suggest is you should try this.

After fighting with the cork for a while- Pours a flakey bronze into a stemmed tulip glass. Small bubbles of carbonation make up the great tan head. Very aromatic musty oak and flowery with hints of caramel. Tastes of sweet caramel and fruit dance on the tongue while the slight alcohol burn is surprising for only being 8%. Higher in alcohol percent and mouthfeel, but still a very drinkable beer.

Color is a hazy, brown with red tones and a small tannish head with some lacing around the edge that just wouldn't quit.
Smells fantastic with lots of fruit and malt tones, mostly citrus with some melon, grape, raisin, and fig all dancing around with a super sweet malt in the nose thats soft and subtle. Taste is pretty much in your face with a whole lotta of malt thats sweet and lends into the the tropical feel and taste of melon and some citrusy bitterness and vanilla. Feel is medium bodied, silky smooth with a huge bitterness in the end that really soured to much for me. It started nice, but I think perhaps a little more aging would calm the bittery end down some. Not bad at all, pretty drinkable, is darn good and sip worthy as it warms.

750ml bottle, corked and caged. Poured into a tulip.
A - Light cola like color, transparent. Tiny, tight bubbles running to the top. Huge, tan, fluffy, pillowy head.
S - Dark fruit - raisins and plums. Molasses and brown sugar. Belgian yeast.
T - Flavor much like the smell. Sweet caramel malt dominates. Dark fruit (cherries, plums, raisins). Slight taste of alcohol.
M - Medium bodied. Went down sort of slick. Low to medium carbonation.
D - Very good overall beer that I had no problem finishing off the whole bottle of.

750ML bottle.
Poured into my Duvel tulip glass.
Sampled at room temp.
Appearance is excellent. Dark maroon colored brew with red hues around the edges. Huge, clumpy, tan-colored head forms. One of the best heads I've seen on any beer. IPA-like lacing coats the glass.
Smell is very good. Earthy and fruity. Sweet malts tickle the nose. Black cherries. Slight vanilla towards the end.
Taste is good. The malty sweetness is pleasant in this brew although a bit cloying toward the end. Nice flavor of dark fruits (black cherries, plums). Enjoyable.
Mouthfeel is very good. The beer dances all over the tongue, watering the mouth, then finishing with a pleasant dryness. Carbonation makes it's presence but (thankfully) isn't over-done.
Drinkability is good. Relatively easy to put down but a 750ml bottle is more than enough.
Overall: An enjoyable brew from a top notch brewery. Recommended.
