Appearance is good. Dark brown brew with red hues at the edges. The head's frothy and soapy at first then settles down to a swirly, thin ring.
Smell is good. Hints of chocolate and dark fruits ( fig and dates) with a musty oakiness and scotch malt. Alcohol burn, too.
Taste is good. Dark fruit, fresh coffee grounds, espresso bean, bitter chocolate, dark cherries and fudge brownie. Oak and booze come through in the finish. Nice complexity.
Mouthfeel is above-average. Medium-bodied. Oak tannins and a semi-dry finish. Too watery and thin for the style.
Overall: Tasty for sure with nice complexity and barrel character. I just wish the base beer had more flavor and had a heavier mouthfeel. Too pricey for what you get but still a nice BA brew.
