Pours a reddish cola color, settles a bit darker with a nice clear gem-like glow, thin tannish head breifly makes an effort to stay but fizzes quickly down to a thin hazy skim and ring, lace in minimal spots.
Aroma is a bit faint of toasty sweet malts and dark fruits lending some plum, raisin, dates, and dried apricot.
Taste is a bit more filling, starts a little weak and thin but begins to gain malty weight with a nice toffeeish sweetness and finishes strongly with a nice mixing of dark fruits of plum, raisin, dates, and figs giving way to a little chewy caramel lingering finish which is super smooth and creamy. Nice finish on this. Theres a bit of a metallic twinge in the midway parts but is barely noticeable and appears mostly at the front of the tongue and the lips.
Feel is close to medium with a light silken creamyness that floats through the palate with ease and the finish is quite nice with a light building of chewy sweetness. A soild dopplebock by any standards, good stuff.

Binny's Orland

Korbinian poured a caramel brown into my pilsner glass. Generous amount of small rising carbonation bubbles. A tan 2 finger head formed on the pour that, with some time, faded do a thick cap. Leaves small spotty lacing. Looks good.

The smell starts with a a deep caramel sweetness. Along the way there's some nuts, bananas, and some doughiness. Some raw grains show up as well as a mild vegetal aroma. Theres a mild metallic scent in there that doesn't belong but it fades as the beer warms. Smells good. The metallic and vegetal aromas do detract a little from the smell though.

The flavor is much like the smell without the funky vegetal flavor or metallic twang. More caramel and raw grains are the backbone and help to showcase the mild banana. The doughiness comes along mid-palate and everything ends up with some frothy milk chocolate and a touch of alcohol. Slightly acidic. Nice.

The mouthfeel seems to be a little on the thin side. Medium bodied but the thinness that starts mid-palate doesnt quite fit. There is a frothiness on the swallow that is unique and pleasant.

I could drink another one or two of these buts that's probably all. It is an enjoyable beer that I will pick up again.

Overall this is a solid doppelbock. There are some unique characteristics you don't find in other doppelbocks, unfortuanately some of them don't add to the quality. Not as hearty as some others but still a good all around beer.

500ml bottle I got at Four Winds in Pensecola. Poured into a Weihenstephaner Weizen glass.

A: Poured a nice dark brown that has an amber hue when held to light. Poured a nice, big tan head . Leaves little streak of lacing that don't leave the glass. Active carbonation that slowly moves from bottom to top. Very nice looking brew.

S: Caramel, sweet molassess, roasted malt, brown sugar and a smell I can only describe as bubble gum. Smells great.

T: Taste is much of the same. Dark fruits come in a bit with raisan and prune, but caramel, brown sugar and roasted malts shine. That bubble gum flavor is there too on the back end. Loving it.

M: Medium bodied brew that is actually really refreshing and pretty damn clean on the finish. The flavors don't mingle as much as I would like, but that is if I look for something wrong. Aftertaste is only of bubble gum and no trace of alcohol.

D: This beer is easy to drink and feels like a big brew. I love this beer and I love this brewery. I can drink this all day. I love my German beers.
