Rochefort 8 poured the darkest murkiest brown into my goblet. When held to the light there are small mahogany highlights where you can see frantic carbonation and some tiny floating yeasties. A 1 finger slightly off white head formed on the pour that stayed put and left moderate lacing. This is one of those murky belgians that looks like it will be loaded with flavor.

This beer is packed full of strong dark aromas. Too many for me to list accurately. Brown sugar and rum soaked raisins are what come to mind first. Big doughiness along with dark fruits such as figs and blackberries. More fruits are in there too but they're difficult to put a finger on. Mild yeasty powderiness. Smells delicious.

Flavor is rich and complex. Brown sugar and raisins are present in the flavor as well. Strong doughy background that allows all the other flavors to really pop. I find myelf repeating the aromas but they're in the flavors. Figs and very mild blackberries are a couple of the darker fruits along with ripe plums. Powdery yeast on the finish. Alcohol warmth and fumes in the throat but no signs in the flavor. Fruity sweetness lingers.

A very fine, strong carbonation turns the body frothy when it enters the mouth. My only complaint, and it's a very minor one, is it turns frothy to quick. I'd like it a bit farther back on the palate.

Wonderful flavor and smell make this beer a pleasure to sip away.

A great beer from Rochefort. One to be pondered after each sip with all the complexity. Truly enjoyable.

Poured into a Delirium Tremens tulip. Huge beige head formed atop of a beautiful dark rubyish body. Tons of lace. Aromas of rum raisin, black cherry, and plenty of candi syrup. Very malty and rich, yet light on the tongue. Syrup, molasess, exotic sugars, peppery. Slight alcohol burn. World classic in every sence of the word.

A - Pours a light brown body with a slight reddish hue to it. Light haze. Head starts very fizzy, but has good retention. Head is dark beige and made up of tight bubbles.

S - Mmmm....boozy with tons and tons of sweet dark smells. Dark fruits with prunes and dates. Some light toffee and big molasses. Rich caramel. Light milk chocolate. Smells absolutely decadent.

T - Starts with some semi-sweet chocolate, but that really doesn't last long. Moves to molasses and light toffee. Dark fruit with raisins and prunes that seem to be dipped in rum. Some sort of chalky fruit flavor hits and then finishes to a mild bitterness with more toffee.

M - Medium to full bodied. Carbonation is a bit fuzzy. Give it a few swirls in the glass.

D - About time I write a review of this one. Great beer that ages remarkably well. I will have to write another review when I have another with a couple years under it.

Gorgeous cloudy, pale deep walnut in color with a plum-like purple tone, nice. If it weren't for a fast fading head it would recieve a 5 for sure, but it crumpled away pretty darn quick, it looked impressive for about 2 seconds, big, fluffy, dark ivory in color, leaves a skim and lace is in stringy patches that doesn't last either.

Aroma is quite complex of dark fruits and has a quality close to a dark wine, very rich & lush, alcohol is lightly present, I get mostly plum and figs, with notes mixing with raisins, banana, with a nice caramel candied sweetness of yummy malts with a bit of nuttyness in there as well, excellent subtlities in this nose.

Taste is super smooth and silky, a nice creamy sensation comes through right away, flows right in and starts laying down complex malts of caramel sweetness, toffee, and nuts, with a huge rich fruityness mixing in of banana bread, figs, raisins, and nice little light kick of spice hinting in a dark mandorine orange peel or similar to some kind of citrus peel, cloves maybe too? The alcohol makes a slight hindering towards the end. But especially after you get about half way through, head swimmingly goodness, ooooh yeah. One nice complex and subtle brew, amazing to think this is beer.

Very silky smooth feel, close to full, solid creamyness the whole way through. A nice mellowing pace and aged appeal to its character.
Quite a nice Belgian that stands the test of time....in a bottle.
Excellent stuff, yum!

The little brother of the Trap. 10 did not disappoint. A really great brew. Not quite the look or smell of the 10 but this is in no way a slouch. Nice dark color and a sizable head. Very easy to drink and the taste is just as good, only slightly lighter, then the 10.

Served at room temp and poured into my Duvel tulip glass.

Appearance is good. Dark-brown colored brew with a huge soapy tan head. Lacing is thick and everywhere.

Smell is very good. Rum soaked raisins, Belgian yeast, Belgian candy sugar and bubblegum. Very pleasing aroma.

Taste is good. Much like the smell. Alcohol is very noticeable in the flavor which knocks a point off. Chocolate-covered hazelnuts and a small hop bitterness.

Mouthfeel is good. Medium-bodied. Soft and delicate on the palat with a slight burn from the alcohol. Above-average level of carbonation.

Drinkability is very good. An easy drinker with a flavor that makes you go back for more. Another one would be very welcome.

Overall:
A very nice Trappist brew that is a must if you like the style. I think some age will take away the alcohol burn and mellow out the bitterness. The 10 will get more attention from me but the 8 is still an awesome brew.
