Bottle code of 7 D; Sampled February 2009
This beer pours into my 25cl tulip glass with a three-finger thick, pale, off-white colored head. The beer is a nice gold color that shows a hint of haze and a bright gold color when held up to the light. The aroma smells most notably of pears and golden raisins. There is a touch of spiciness here as well as a bit of cracker-like malt. At first I did not get any sage, but after a bit I start to notice an up front savory note and perhaps a hint of herbal aromatics. If it wasn't on the label, based on the aroma, I never would have guessed this was brewed with sage. This smells like a Belgian Blonde more than anything.
Fairly dry tasting with a nice prickly carbonation and a tart-leaning finish. A certain savory note lingers on in the palate after each sip; a touch of menthol, a light grassiness and perhaps a touch of something like rosemary. This beer really is quite dry, it is also fairly light bodied with only a touch of malt texture to it. Some cracker like malt is just noticeable here towards the end and as the beer warms a touch of herbal honey-like malt becomes noticeable.
I like how dry this beer is, it brings out a soft tartness that makes this beer quite refreshing. I do wish that the sage was just a little more prominent, as it is I would be hard pressed to say anything out of the ordinary was added to this beer, though there is a general spiciness to this beer that makes it seem like a Belgian ale of some sort.
