Pours absolutely beautifully - deep copper colored brew with a hewad that starts as a lot of carbonation then rises to a 3/4" tan head that lasts forever. I'd give it a 4 for appearance if I could. Aroma is deep fruity malts, apricots and plums, with a faint citric hoppiness and some toffee.

Starts out very complex - toffee and fruit on the tongue, with a firm bitterness, faint spicy notes, then some citrusy hops stop by for a quick hello, followed by some tea-like flavors and a warming surge o' alcohol that carries through for a while, then dissipates leaving faint cocoa (where'd that come from?) along with the toffee and residual citrusy hops. Finishes cleanly with a lingering bitterness. Not at all over the top on mouthfeel, appropriate to style.

Really enjoyed the hell out of this brew; I've had several vintages before, but this one is one of the better ones. Would be interesting to see if the alcohol mellows over a couple of months.

Price: $6.00 Served In: Pint Glass
