Old Review
12 oz bottle I picked up from Four Winds in Pensecola, FL. Served up in a nonic pint.

A: Pours a dark brown, might as well be black. Somewhat thick on the pour. Has a pretty nice finger of tan head that has decent retention that recedes to a top cap that produces a nice thick sheet of lacing. When held to the light, it has some really nice brown to ruby red hues. Not a bad looking brew.

S: Smell is of some serious cream and lactose. This smells of rich, cream much like ice milk. Sweet. Rich malts are in there as well. Sweetness. Dark coffee and rich chocolate is very faint. Overall the cream and malt are big time.

T: Taste is not much unlike a chocolate milkshake with a shot of mocha. Rich creamy lactose presence comes in first. Cool and thick. Then the malt comes in with rich chocolate and a bit of sweet coffee flavors. Although all these flavors are present they are very much overpowered by a heavy malt aftertaste. Kinda kills it a bit.

M: Full bodied brew that is thick, but still has a thin feel somehow. This is a pretty smooth brew. Goes down pretty easy. It is a bit sticky and the malt really covers the palate.

D: This beer is pretty damned drinkable for the style. It is incredibly easy to drink. I am down with this beer. It has areas to improve but it is still tasty and drinkable in mass. I like it.

This is one smooth and yummy stout! Nice black color with dark brown highlights, large tannish head that really faded fast leading to just some small bubbles along the edge. Nice aroma of roasted malt and sweet hops with a chocolate tone and vanilla notes. Super smooth taste of well balanced roasted barley, sweet chocolate and hops, with a hint of vanilla. Well done. It reminded me of a warm chocolate shake with out the thickness. Good medium stout body, sort of heavy but the smoothness really keeps it from getting any heavier. Nice sweet vanilla tang in the mouth at the finish with hints of roasty a chocolate sweetness. Very drinkalbe stout!

Double Cream Stout poured glossy black with very minor black coffee colored edges when held to the light. A two finger drown head was produced on the pour. After some waiting and this typing it fell to a half-finger creaminess. Looks good.

Smell is strong of bitter coffee grounds. Swirls of cream are mixed in with the black coffee. Heavily roasted malts combine with the coffee notes to for a robust smelling stout.

The flavor is actually quite a bit different than I imagined from the smell. Big roasty flavors that show up in the front and again in the finish. A milky creamines comes through in the middle along with mild coffee ground bitterness that gets stronger until it meets with the roasted malts.

I really enjoy the mouthfeel on this beer. It's medium bodied but creamy like a heavier bodied beer. Somehow on the finish there's even a little frothiness. Very nice.

Drinkability is good for a bigger stout. I can drink a couple of these in the winter time but I have to be in the right mood. I have to be in the right mood for a lot of stouts though. When I enjoy them I really enjoy them. This one is very nice.

A good solid stout overall. I thought there would be more milk chocolatiness but I was clearly wrong about that. Very nice beer to have handy on a cold night like tonight.

Pours a dark, burnt brown color...just a shade or two under black. Develops a 2 finger thick, light brown colored head that hangs around for awhile, slowly condensing to a creamy mat.

The aroma is sweet and malty, with some dark fruits components, caramelized sugar, chocolate and very little roastiness. Also a touch of fresh baked bread yeastiness.

The flavor is chock full of malty sweet goodness, you have the sugary malt sweetness, the creamy lactose sweetness, along with some chocolate flavors and burnt caramel even a touch fo marshmallow. The roastiness is kept in check, and the finish is balanced well, not bitter nor sweet, just well rounded.

Great texture to the beer, creamy and not too heavy. The flavors are exactly what I like in a Milk stout with emphasis on the creaminess and overall sweet character. Just an awesome milk stout, IMO.

Thanks go to hwwty4 for this one!

On the pour, this thing is a beauty - like all of Bells' Stouts. Midnight black, viscous and smooth. Almost two fingers of coffee with double creamers colored head - thick, full and creamy lookin'. Excellent retention, and when it decides to settle, a cap made up of small clumps remains - with strands of beautiful lacing.

Aroma is roasted, slightly charred malts, and of course - that sweet lactose sugars aroma - and the two are blended perfectly. Hints of licorice and dried dark fruits emerge - prunes/dates/raisins. Cocoa, milk chocolate and toffee also. Good God...

Wow. Dark and roasty. Huge roasted malts (all 10 of them). Excellent burnt taste, not overly charred, but just right. Strong tastes of dark, bitter coffee and chocolates. Sweet lactose intertwined with licorice, molasses and those dried dark fruits. More bitterness towards the smooth as silk, yet dry-ish finish.

Full in body, smooth, CREAMY, silky, sticky mouthfeel. Subtle carbonation - perfect.

I love Bells' Stouts - NOBODY does them better, with such consistency. The mouthfeel is shinning jewel in the ring here, almost orgasmicaly smoooth and creamy - blends oh-so-well with the charcoal nature of this beer. Hint of alcohol warmth just compliments the whole experience... a true sipper. I love this.
Thanks Again, Bill!
Highly Recommended!!

Thanks to BeerBeing and to the 1,000 Miles (East/West again) BIF for this beer. Batch number 6707 (according to the website "was packaged on December 16, 2004).
Served at cellar temp.

Pours a cola soda color with about half an inch of foam. Very attractive and well formed ring of foam once it settles.

Aroma is of roasted barley, anise, malted milk, hints of coffee, and a bit of vanilla. A good presence of roasted and chocolate malts as well and just slightly alcoholic. A bit more of grain and roasted aroma as it warms up and some mocha (chocolate/coffee) as well.

Taste is of chocolate, cocoa, candy malted-milk balls, and a bit of anise and woodsy licorice. It has a dry, chocolate finish.

Mouthfeel and drinkability are above average. Very tasty Cream Stout, and another great beer from Bell’s.

grassy ass to beagle for this brew.

Great looking pour. Dark brew that forms a nice dark tan thick head. Fades rather quick, but nice ring on this thing. Taste is decent, good, but not great. Pretty simple and light for a stout, even a sweet stout. Solid drinker, and real smooth.

12oz glass bottle
Sampled at cellar temperature
Poured into a pint glass.

Appearance is above-average. Black as night. Mocha head develops but quickly fades away leaving only an abyss of dark liquid.

Smell is above-average. Roasted malts and a mild sweet aroma.

Taste is good. Not a huge flavor by any means but the roasted malts are well done in this brew. After-taste is creamy and mouth-watering.

Mouthfeel is above-average. Quite thin in the mouth, was hoping for more. Silky/creamy texture. Carbonation is low.

Drinkability is good. Very easy to drink. Goes down almost too easy. I wouldn't want more than 2 of these in one sitting. The reason? Light, easy-drinking stouts just aren't my thing for a "session beer".

Overall: Nothing spectacular but a good offering from Bell's.
