Good color of a solid stout, very dark brown, nearly black with super deep ruby amber highlights up to the light. Thin creamy foamed head of a very tan brown, looks like a pancake cooking. Strange glaring, hazy, spotty lace. S
mell is a very nice sweetly dark chocolatey tone, roasty, with notes of earthy fresh hops, dark fruits of banana, cherry, and starfruit. One excellent nose on this stout.
Taste is a medley of bold and rich chocolate malts and some caramel malts noted, roasty/toasty and thinly sweet, mostly covered in chocolateyness, dark and close to espresso-like in its earthyness and bitterness. Mostly middle flavors is where it goes complex on your taste buds. Perfect balance with the late hops, notes of dark coffee beans and roasted pecans. Very nice stout indeed.
Feel is beautifully full, pleasurable, luscious, rich, creamy, with a late tangy dryness holding forever it seems on the roof of my mouth. One yummy, scrumptious stout. Another Bell's goody thats deserving of notoriety.

Pours a think, mostly cloudy burnt brown color with red (and slightly orange) hues around the edge. Decent head that is pretty creamy but some bigger bubbles remain. Good lacing as well.
The smell comes out nicely with malt and a touch of sweetness. A nice roast aroma with a hint of astringency and coffee notes. A lactic aroma that has a milky aroma (versus oatmeal). Some earthy and citrus hoppy notes a bit much for style but ok. Yeast is noticeable if not more so with the Bells yeast strain.
The taste has a woodsy taste with a good roasted flavor mixed with a light black malt at the end. A burnt after taste mostly. A creamy texture with touch of caramel and a sharp acidic taste that reminds me of sour apples. Noticeable esters come out. Some hop notes but not as noticeable as compared to the nose. A light yeasty note in the finish but also lighter.
The beer is smooth with a mild body. Very nice drinkability with a easy finish. The acidic aftertaste keeps the astringency down but still lets it come out. Overall a great stout but would like a bit cleaner fermentation.

Thanks to SPLITGRIN for sending me this nice brew!
This review will be for a 12oz bottle with a batch number 7952.
I had not notice until now the statement at the bottom of the bottle claiming that this beer includes licorice. I like licorice, so on to the beer.
Wow, this beer pours pretty viscous. It is dark and thick. A minimal amount of head but retains a nice fluffy ring of foam. This beer has a nice roasted aroma and includes chocolate, toffee, mild coffee and I think I can detect a sweet wood aroma that might be the licorice. The taste is great. It has a clean, yet bitter, roasted malt profile upfront with the rest of the aromas: coffee, toffee, and chocolate. The beer maintains a good sweet/bitter balance and it has a pleasant smokey finish. The mouthfeel is very good indeed. I take my time with this one and let it warm up and it gets better and better.
Overall, this is a very well made stout and one I hope to run into again. Now I can hardly wait to open the Expedition Stout!

Color is almost black, with decent foam. Smell is a bit muted, but you get slight roasted grains, and a mixed chocolate smell, like cocoa powder and baking chocolate mixed together. Taste is also slightly muted, but still good with the roasted taste first. Follow that up with the chocolate taste, which is actually much stronger than the smell hinted. Nice bitter chocolate taste. They say on the bottle this one was brewed with licorice, but I'm not getting in anything other than the after-taste. Nicely hidden and offers a little twist at the end. Feel is about in the middle, maybe a little thicker.
Overall, a winner from Bell's. As usual.

Another great beer from Bell’s. Pours dark black with a finger thick tan head. Roasted malt and chocolate aroma. Smooth palate but could be smoother. Kind of oily. The flavor is much the same as the aroma. There is a touch of smoked malt as well.
