I've had this bottle since 2008.
A great pour for the big Beast that it is. A very dark reddish brown with over 1 finger head of foam and tons of lacing! Really? for a beer that checks in over 16%abv?? Marvelous.
The smell is through the roof with caramel malt; you know how some very aged English Strong Ales/Barleywines smell? Bordering on Sherry like aromas..a big hit with me.
The taste is hugely malty. Big caramel malt smacks me in the face with, again, Sherry like flavours. At around the 5 year old mark, the alcohol still gives me a slight burn on the throat and is VERY warming; a sipper fresh, still a sipper now but damn, it's hitting all the right notes with *my* palate.
Full bodied with no apparent loss of carbonation over the years, the mouthfeel kills it. Yeah, it's that good.
I hated like hell to pop the cap on my very last bottle but then again I didn't. For the fussy pots out there, yeah, there is some oxidation and it comes close to be over sweet but overall, this is drinking superbly..
