Deepest of browns if not entirely black with a sheen to mahogany at the bottom. Densely thick capping of cocoa tanned foam sits a good two nearly three fingers high and leaves tons of snowflaked sheeting lace as its consumed.
Aroma is of a light dry tangy lemony hoppyness covered in a milk chocolate shaving of ice cream. Perhaps even more complex then that, but its not wafty enough to get into some of the intricacy of its nose. Semi roasty, moslty chocolatey, milken, lemony, tangy, lower end of citrus but its there.
Sublimely subtle taster. Wow! Quite nice. Tangy, dark, rich, thick, with a unique pie filling essense that brings to mind chocolate cream pie spritzed with lemon and blood orange. Touches to Brazilian berry fused creamed coffee. Quite porteresque with a Baltic touch of sourish tanged malting. Nice finish of dusty milk chocolate late and the impression of malty tang sits forever. Yum!
Creamy, lush, dark, rich, thick, fullish body. Nearly perfect spot on carbonation as its smoothness holds the tongue well letting the malty chocolatey roasted tang sooth in with ease. The hops add a nice peppy combo of citrusy roundedness and nothing overpowering here. Subtle, clean, robust, and very soothing.
I really liked this beer! Avery usually does a fantastic job on their Anniversary brews and this one does not disappoint.
