Deepest darkest of mahogany with a velvet black interior. A thin, light cocoa tanned crown emerges amidst a good pour into a standard pint glass. Medium amounts of thick globby stringed lacing icies itself to the glass.

Lovely aroma of smooth tootsie roll chocolate laced with some burnt edgyness of char and roastyness of burnt coffee.

Taste has a bit more of bite of char to it then I would like. The chocolate in the aroma is nearly invisible in the taste with a tiny tug to some chocolate smoothness buried underneath as mostly burnt, charred, roasted malt stand at the forefront with an uneasy turn of carbonation that cuts off any flavors that might continue as it bitters off into a slightly uneven finish of further heavily roasted, burntish things.

Body is just under medium with a small smootch to smooth sweetness lending chocolate. But as noted in the taste, the burntness gets in the way for me as does its order of the same within the carbonation bite. As it warms it gains just a tad more smoothness and drinkability...

One porter I could smell all day but drink only once.

Like the band? Pours a midnight black with limited red hues around the edges. Not really much light coming through when held to the light. A nice off tan colored head with good retention, though slips to the side of the glass, and limited lacing.

The nose is mostly malt with some off aromas. There is a stronger astringent roasty characteristic that smells more of a burnt wort aroma (for those who have done that). Some off caramel mixed with a light veggie, butyric aroma. Hints of coffee but off for sure.

The taste is similar. Most astringent with strong roasted malt flavors. Really dominates that palate and doesn't let any other flavors really come out. Some minor yeast and autolysis flavors. As it warms hints of DMS come out. At first I thought that this is a bad bottle but some of the reviews are close to my perceptions.

The body is hard to perceive beyond the astray. Leaves a astray after-flavor that doesn't quite hid the problems of the beer. Overall not good and ended up pitching it.
