Pours a dark leathery brown, settles opaque black, medium cocoa brown head fluffs up from a vigorous pour and subsides some to a thin haze and a fluffy sponged collar on top, lace in inkblots. Smell is quite mild and subdued of light chocolatey sweetness with a bit of roastyness and oat tangy sweetening.
Taste is very mild with a persistant chocolatey sweetness that sets the overall tone with small notes of oats and roasted malts and faint touches of coffee. Finishes with a bit of drying roastyness and cocoa and a clean milding crispness.
Feel is a solid medium body with no real characteristics of sweetness lingering or standing out any where, overall just a smooth somewhat creamy, chocolatey pensive quality. The chocolate tones are very nice; its a fine drinker, quite smooth and easy with a nice chocolateyness.

The beer pours a dark roasted coffee color with over an inch of foam, good retention.

Aroma of chocolate, deep roasted malts, toast, oatmeal, and coffee. There is a hint of dark fruits too, black cherries covered with dark chocolate. I’m also getting a bit of bitterness from the roasted barley in the background. Later on I detect some warm milk aromas and maybe some vanilla wafers. Not very intense on the aroma but quite decent.

First I get a soft milk chocolate flavor upfront and the second half is an onslaught of roasted malts and toasted flavor, works really well. A bit of dried cherry flavor near the finish and a long lasting toasted aftertaste.

Very smooth and easy to drink, probably my favorite Anderson Valley beer so far.

Crack the top and it foams oot of the bottle. Pours pretty smooth, though. Good looking brew, but the head fades right away and no lacing. Smell is good, sweet. Taste is kind light, and thin. Nothing bad, just a little porterish.
