Rondy Brew Saison by Anchorage Brewing Company
Saison / Farmhouse Ale
6.50 % ABV

In a new partnership with Anchorage
Brewing Company, the official beer of
Fur Rondy 2012 is a Saison and will
offer refreshing twist on a classic
style to enjoy during the cold dark days
of winter and the 10 Days of Rondy that
bring Alaskans and visitors together to
celebrate the traditions and events of
Fur Rendezvous. RondyBrew Saison is an
Alaskan version of a classic Belgian
style beer. Brewed and dry hopped with
East Kent Golding Hops and peppercorns,
then fermented with a farmhouse yeast.
Rondy Brew Saison is dry and refreshing,
yet full of subtle fruity flavors and a
floral aroma.

Nearly clear, sunny golden color. Three fingers of amazingly bleached white cap - meringue-like in every sense. Huge clumps of lace remain adhered to the glass following every sip. Incredible carbonation activity - when I think "actively rising carbonation" in a Saison from here on, I will think of this one.

Aroma is heavy with squeezed grapefruit, sweaty leather and stone fruit pits. Lemons and fresh cut hay find balance. Awesome.

More of the same in taste. Upfront with the grapefruit and lemon, followed by wheat biscuits. Not much for funk, which leaves me disappointed. One dimensional - bitter.

Moderate in body, soft, slightly watery mouthfeel. Carbonation is quite relaxed, with a light dryness to the everlasting finish.

Aroma is fantastic, only to be let down by the other elements. Delightfully bitter, easy drinking. Balalnce is off, but not awkwardly so. There is quite a bit of dark particulate floating around... is this BA'ed? Nothing else lends me to think this, so I guess no. An interesting Saison, if it could find some balance, it would be remarkably good.
